🔧 How To Season Your Cast Iron Wok — MUST READ BEFORE USE

⚠️ This wok is NOT pre-heated and has NO coating. Seasoning is MANDATORY. Follow these steps carefully:

STEP 01
🧼 Wash the Wok
Wash with warm soapy water and a soft sponge to remove any factory dust. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely with a towel.
STEP 02
🔥 Heat the Wok
Place on medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes until completely dry. Rotate the wok to heat all sides evenly. This opens the iron pores.
STEP 03
🛢️ Apply Oil
Turn heat to medium-low. Add 1-2 tbsp of high smoke point oil (vegetable, canola, grapeseed — NOT olive oil). Spread oil using paper towel held with tongs.
STEP 04
♨️ Heat & Smoke
Increase heat to medium-high until oil begins to smoke (3-5 minutes). Wipe away excess oil. The wok will darken. Open windows for ventilation.
STEP 05
🔄 Repeat 2-3 Times
Let wok cool slightly, then repeat steps 3-4 two or three times. Each layer builds a stronger non-stick coating.
STEP 06
🍳 Ready to Cook
Your wok is now ready! After each use, clean without soap, dry completely on heat, and apply a thin coat of oil.

✅ Properly seasoned cast iron wok = Natural non-stick surface that lasts a lifetime!

🏠 Alternative Oven Method (Recommended for Cast Iron): Preheat oven to 230°C (450°F). Apply thin layer of oil to entire wok (inside and out). Place upside down on middle rack with foil below to catch drips. Bake for 1 hour, then let cool in oven. Repeat 2-3 times for best results.

🧼 Care Instructions — Keep Your Wok For Life

✅ DO — Daily Care
Dry immediately after washing — heat on stove to ensure 100% dry. Apply a thin coat of oil after each use. Use hot water and a soft brush/sponge. For stuck food, use coarse salt and a paper towel.
❌ DON'T — Avoid These
Do NOT use dishwasher — will cause severe rust. Do NOT soak in water — iron will rust within hours. Do NOT use steel wool or metal scrubbers — scratches the seasoning layer. Avoid soap if possible.
🪵 Wooden Handle Care
The wooden handle is heat-resistant but avoid prolonged direct flame. Wipe clean with damp cloth. Do not soak in water. Apply mineral oil occasionally to prevent drying.
🔄 Rust Happened? Fix It
Scrub with steel wool and warm soapy water until rust is gone. Rinse, dry completely, and re-season immediately (follow steps above). The wok will be good as new!

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this wok pre-heated like the blue wok?
A: No. This is a natural raw cast iron wok with no pre-heat treatment. It requires full seasoning before first use.
Q: Why is cast iron so heavy?
A: Cast iron is dense and thick (3-5mm), which gives it excellent heat retention. The weight is the trade-off for superior temperature stability.
Q: My wok turned black. Is something wrong?
A: No — this is normal! The raw grey surface will gradually turn dark black as you season and cook. This is the desired patina.
Q: Can I use this wok on an induction stove?
A: Yes, cast iron works perfectly on induction. Gas stove is also excellent. Electric works but heat distribution may be less even.
Q: Does this wok come with a lid?
A: No, lid is not included. This wok is designed for open cooking where a lid is typically not used.
Q: Which oil is best for seasoning cast iron?
A: Flaxseed oil creates the hardest seasoning, followed by grapeseed, canola, and vegetable oil. Avoid olive oil, butter, or coconut oil — smoke point too low.

🍳 Perfect For — What Can You Cook?

Dish Type Why Cast Iron Excels
Braising (Red Braised Pork, Beef Stew) Superior heat retention keeps temperature consistent for hours
Deep Frying Cast iron maintains oil temperature perfectly when adding food
Slow Cooking / Stews Even heating prevents burning — perfect for long cooking times
Stir-fry (with patience) Heavier but provides excellent searing once hot
Steaming Can be used with bamboo or metal steamers

What is Cast Iron? — Material Explained

Cast Iron: Cast iron is an iron-carbon alloy with high carbon content (2-4%). It is poured into a mould while molten, resulting in a thick, heavy wok with excellent heat retention. The thick walls (3-5mm) provide superior temperature stability — once hot, cast iron stays hot for a long time.

Natural Raw Finish — No Pre-Heat: This wok has a natural raw cast iron finish with no pre-heat treatment. Unlike blue woks that have been heat-treated, this wok is in its pure raw state. This means seasoning is especially important — the raw iron will rust quickly if not properly seasoned and maintained. However, the raw surface also means you have complete control over building your own seasoning layer from scratch.

Single Wooden Handle: The ergonomic wooden handle provides a comfortable grip and stays cooler than metal handles during cooking. The single handle design is traditional for cast iron woks — allowing easy lifting while the weight of the wok provides stability on the stove.

Cooking Applications: Cast iron is best suited for braising, deep frying, slow cooking, and stews where consistent temperature is key. While it can be used for stir-frying, its weight makes tossing difficult, and its slow heat response means temperature changes are gradual. For fast stir-fry and wok hei, a carbon steel wok is better. For slow-cooked, deeply flavoured dishes, cast iron is unmatched. No lid included.

🔥 Traditional Cast Iron — Built to Last Generations

Experience the superior heat retention of traditional cast iron. Perfect for braising, deep frying, and slow-cooked dishes.

⚠️ REMINDER: SEASONING IS REQUIRED — NOT OPTIONAL ⚠️

Returns due to rust or sticking caused by failure to season will not be accepted. No lid included. Not pre-heated — raw cast iron finish.
